Ultrasonography – 3D/4D Ultrasound System

The new SOFIA 3D Breast Ultrasound System solves all the economic and logistic challenges associated with whole-breast ultrasound by using a full-field radial scanning method.

SOFIA 3D Breast Ultrasound System is a premium ultrasound system supporting multiple applications in addition to whole breast scanning. The resulting throughput, efficiency, and patient comfort make SOFIA the ideal solution for women with dense breasts.

Its advanced digital beam former and high-speed back-end enable high spatial resolution, high contrast resolution, and a wide dynamic range.

A full complement of linear, convex, and phased array transducers are available for ARIETTA 70 and, when combined with SOFIA’s convertible table, deliver the ultimate in clinical flexibility.

Key Features and Benefits

1. 30-Second Whole-Breast Scan

The SOFIA Automated 3D Whole Breast Ultrasound is able to capture a full scan of each breast in just 30 seconds. This is possible due to SOFIA’s fully automated rotating scan cone in the scanning bed, which comprises a 92mm linear ultrasound probe.

2. Efficient Operation

3. Patient Comfort

SOFIA was designed to reduce patient anxiety through its comfortable and private exam experience. Scanning in the prone position means that patients can remain covered during the entire exam. The elegant curves and multi-layer memory foam design of SOFIA make it both inviting and comfortable for the patient.

4. Short Review Time

Efficient, High-speed Interpretation

SOFIA’s workstation delivers images in planes just like those acquired in hand-held ultrasound exams but with fields-of-view that are considerably larger than conventional images. As a result, doctors can quickly survey all the full-field slices comprising the total volume with average interpretation times of approximately 1 minute per breast.

The efficiency and speed that characterizes SOFIA during scanning continues in interpretation. Because each breast is presented to the radiologist as a single, high resolution DICOM-compatible dataset and interpreted in familiar planes, review times are greatly shortened.

One Volume Data-set Per Breast

SOFIA presents the entire breast in a single volume study; interpreting fewer volumes per patient means shorter read times.

Review in the Natively-acquired Plane

Images can be reviewed in the same plane as they were acquired, reducing interpolation and volume averaging from out-of-plane reconstruction and maximizing spatial resolution.

Comprehensive 3D Review Tools

When suspicious areas are found, the data-rich volume and comprehensive image 3D review tools allow physicians to further characterize any mass or structure without calling back the patient.

Main Technical Specifications:

Symphonic Technology

ARIETTA 70’s Symphonic Technology optimizes data fidelity along the entire signal handling chain.
  • Multi-layered Crystal
There are multiple crystal layers within each element, which helps to minimize signal attenuation.
  • Compound Pulse Wave Generator
This unique transmission technology reduces heat generation, allowing stronger pulses to improve penetration, contrast and spatial resolution, and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR).
  • Pixel Focusing
Dynamically focusing at the pixel level improves resolution and image uniformity.
  • Ultra Backend
The high-speed digital computing of the ARIETTA 70’s Ultra Backend fuels real-time image processing features.
  • IPS-Pro Display Monitor
In-Plane Switching (IPC), developed by Hitachi Displays, was the first LCD technology to improve viewing angle. The AREITTA 70’s IPS-Pro Display monitor delivers wide half-contrast viewing angle and excellent contrast, black levels, and switching speed.

Standard Imaging Features

  • HI Definition Tissue Harmonic Imaging (HdTHI)
Extends penetration and increases resolution by transmitting a wide band pulse and receiving the second harmonic and sub-harmonic signals across the entire spectrum of the probe bandwidth.
  • HI Compound Imaging (HI Com)
Is especially beneficial for improving the visibility of luminal structures. HI Com transmits and receives ultrasound beams in various directions and superimposes the resultant images in real time.
  • Adaptive Imaging (HI REZ+)
Utilizes Hitachi healthcare’s high speed digital processing engine to extract structures and emphasize tissues without reducing frame rate.
  • Fine Flow
Displays high-definition, high frame rate color Doppler images of fine vessels with minimal blooming.

92mm Long Linear Probe

The extra-long linear probe of the ARIETTA 70 is integrated into the SOFIA bed. Trapezoid imaging extends the width of its field-of-view to more than 10cm at depths greater than 5cm. This large FOV enables SOFIA’s short scan time of 30 seconds.
